QUESTIONS
A few useful answers.
Compatibility, setup and what to expect from the preview.
Is Nightfall free?
Yes. Nightfall is free and open source under GPLv3. Streaming services or games you access may have their own costs.
Do I need a PC?
For desktop and PC VR streaming, yes. In the preview, the standalone browser runs on Quest without a PC, including on-headset AI 3D.
Which Quest headsets are supported?
Quest 2, Quest 3 and Quest 3S are the target devices. Quest 3 receives the most development testing; performance and backend choices differ on Quest 2.
Does it replace Sunshine?
Nightfall is the headset client. It connects to Sunshine-compatible hosts. Meteor is an optional companion and the Linux preview can install a managed Vibepollo host.
Can I use it with Windows?
Ordinary desktop streaming works with compatible Windows hosts. Windows support for Meteor depth and PC VR is coming in an upcoming release.
Does every website work in the browser?
No. The embedded browser has website, DRM and service-specific limitations. YouTube, Plex and cloud gaming have been tested, but support is not guaranteed for every service.
Is the 3D effect native stereo?
AI 3D estimates depth from a 2D image. It can have artifacts and is different from a game rendering a separate camera for each eye. Native SBS content is supported separately.
Where do I report a problem?
Use the Nightfall GitHub issue tracker. Include your headset, host OS, GPU, release version and a downloaded log. Please check diagnostic logs for private information before posting them publicly.
