ABOUT NIGHTFALL

A project with room to grow.

Open-source VR streaming, with a focus on Linux and the freedom to try things.

Made by Tyrone Hattingh

Nightfall started as a personal project to do one thing well: put a PC desktop into a VR headset in a way that felt native to the headset, not like a port. It grew from there — depth conversion, a browser, multiple screens, and eventually PC VR streaming — shaped by profiling, experiments and feedback from people actually using it.

The 0.9.0 release is a significant milestone: it brings a standalone browser, up to four simultaneous screens, and the Linux PC VR preview together for the first time. Windows Meteor support is next.

Nightfall is built on top of open-source work: Monado for the XR runtime, Vibepollo for the managed streaming host, and the GameStream protocol. It is licensed under GPLv3.

This is an independent project. It is not affiliated with Meta, Valve or the developers of the services you access through it.

Feedback is part of the development

Useful bug reports, real-world testing and contributions help shape Nightfall. Development and release notes are public, including the rough edges. If you are using it regularly, your feedback matters more than you might think.
